I kick the dirt from my shoes Dirt it seemed liked keeping me from home The open road to make my liquored tongue shut down And it’s the only place where I can feel alone So give me a little more time To live this distant life Console my crowded mind Free me from this lie To see your eyes through mine I peel the wax from both my knuckles on the wheel I’ll hold your candle forever in my soul Flames to vex my angry heart, still too warm to feel Will I go colder as I’m growing old Give me a little more time To live this distant life Console my crowded mind Free me from this lie To see your eyes through mine Oh to see your eyes through mine Well I was told the world is round And I’ve been on the longest straightest street Woah I spend all my time driving around Away from all the people that I meet Woah And if I drive away from you for long enough Will I be back at your feet? So give me a little more time And grant this life to pass me by Console my crowded mind Free me from this lie To see your eyes through mine Oh to see your eyes through mine
2.
In the cold I feel it hold you And in the dark I see right through you You move toward a foreign light Are we dead or are we sleeping? A silent hum is slowly creeping Further up your rigid spine Turn away and don’t look back, my dear You’ve left everything that there is left to fear Have you felt that winter’s coming? It’s not too late to keep on running You turn away from what you’ve known I don’t blame you for upping and leaving It’s hard to live when there’s no air worth breathing I’m here for you when you come back home Turn away and don’t look back, my dear You’ve left everything that there is left to fear Don’t wait, I won’t ask you to stay But when your eyes call me I know I will have to obey Hold on tight, this ride’s a little bumpy It’s worth the fight, I sure could use the company Help me to fall from grace Let’s go to where the demons can’t reach us It’s hard to hear the lessons that they teach to us When you scream out my name Turn away and don’t look back, my dear You’ve left everything that there is left to fear Don’t wait, I won’t ask you to stay But when your eyes call me I know I will have to obey Don’t wait, I won’t ask you to stay But when your eyes call me I know I will have to obey Fall from grace Fall from grace Fall from grace Fall from grace Help me to fall from grace Help me to fall Help me to fall from grace Help me to fall from grace Help me to fall Help me to fall from grace Help me to fall from grace Help me to fall Help me to fall from grace Don’t wait, I won’t ask you to stay But when your eyes call me I know I will have to obey Don’t wait, I won’t ask you to stay But when your eyes call me I know I will have to obey Yes when your eyes call me I know I will have to obey When your eyes call me I know I will have to obey

Hold On 03:38
Where are you running? Are all your worlds becoming places only filled with vacancy? Will you chase the rainbow wherever the wind blows? And will you scream out my name eventually? Hold on to me our lives have changed Nuzzle up quietly for we are not to blame Hold on to me and stay This call for peace can be arranged Cold laughs and piercing stares Mean everything when you’re out there So come home where we don’t have to care Hold on to me our lives have changed Nuzzle up quietly for we are not to blame Hold on to me and stay This call for peace can be arranged Hold on to me I don’t wanna face this world alone Hold on Hold on to me I don’t wanna face this world alone Hold on Hold on to me I don’t wanna face this world alone Hold on Hold on and we will see That you are everything to me Hold on to me this world is getting strange Slow down, just breathe and time will rearrange Hold on to me our lives have changed Nuzzle up quietly for we are not to blame Hold on to me and stay This call for peace can be arranged

Belonging 03:10
Go to sleep Drift away What do you dream In this solace state? Follow me All is okay Nightmares flee Your mind is at bay No need to be in that cold, darkened space For you and me It’s a brighter day An empty void Given time and space A homeless boy has Found his place And we don’t need An empty case Let’s slow it down Let’s, let’s set this pace Follow me All is okay Nightmares flee Your mind is at bay No need to be in that cold, darkened space For you and me It’s a brighter day Take me to that far away place All is not okay We can be and we can create Belonging that we crave Yeah, belonging Yeah, yeah Yeah, belonging Yeah, yeah For you and me For you and me For you and me It’s a brighter day

about

Steve Umculo’s second EP, Fall From Grace, originated during a 3 month songwriting journey that the South African singer/songwriter embarked on in 2019. In this body of work, Umculo explores the folkier edge of his craft while subtly maintaining his distinct afro-centric influences. The use of iconic American roots based instruments such as the mandolin, cello, and banjo transports us into the folkier aspect of Steve’s artistic realm.

It only makes sense for an artist who has lived in Nashville (USA) to draw on major folk influences that the Music City has to offer. Umculo claims that “folk has always had a significant meaning” in his life and that he “feels compelled to pay tribute to this through Fall From Grace by drawing influence from artists such as The Lumineers and Mumford & Sons.”

Led by Your Eyes Through Mine - a nod to the inevitability of complex dynamics unfolding between yourself and other people in this world - this EP is a testament to Umculo’s autobiographical songwriting and how it has matured over the years. As this body of work unfolds, we are gracefully given hints of dramatic folk themes which are beautifully accompanied by nostalgic melodies, all the while maintaining Umculo’s trademark vibrant energy.
